Unlikely Style Idols: Korean Pop-Bands

In my long abandoned series of Unlikely Style Idols, of which there is actually only one preceding post (what a shame, though), today I just want to post some K-Pop-bands that unexpectedly caught my attention.

The thing why K-Pop works for me is because I am actually a sucker for Pop, and then again, I am such a visual person that, if there is enough nice things for me to look at, I can generously overhear just about everything. While watching K-Pop-MVs, I just realized that for some reason I love to look at clothes so much, I would still sit thru a whole song without turning it off until eventually the last minute.

With that said, enjoy the pictures, but don't bother too much about the music. K-Pop is serious, serious business, but the bands' music is probably a rather small fraction of what they actually are supposed and created for. However, in a business where it's all about putting out eye-candy, and creating visual sensations, I'm thinking Korean Pop industry does a good job with the styling of their products.

Big Bang (Korean: 빅뱅), commonly stylized as BIGBANG, is a Korean boyband made up of five Korean singers. The group continued this image concept for the rest of 2006 and into 2007 until the release of their mini-album Always, which showcased the group in a more preppy-ish punk style, sporting modern day fashion (such as the skinny jeans with Converse or high-top sneakers as seen within the music video of their song "Lies"). Big Bang's unique and urban hip-up sense of style has quickly become popular in Korea as a result, known as the "Big Bang fashion". Usually, the group prefers brands such as Bape, 10 deep, Louis Vuitton, Phenomenon, and others and are often seen in customized printed hoodies. The group has been noted as well to have brought back the old school fashion, high-top shoes, such as the Nike and Reebok high-top shoes. Leader G-Dragon is considered by many to be the most fashionable one of the group, where he tends to wear triangular scarves (shemagh/keffiyeh) around his neck, known as "Big Bang scarves" [...]. Additionally, member T.O.P. is also seen sporting sunglasses, most notably shutter shades, which are worn by American rapper Kanye West. Big Bang's fashion trends are well known throughout the internet fashion portals, thus making them one of the most sought after artists for endorsement products. The group's unique imagery and fashion has led them to release their own fragrance, entitled "BB Bud's My First Fragrance (나의 첫번째 향기)" in early 2007. [from]

So yes, here they are, aforementioned G-Dragon (who also went solo), and T.O.P., who actually have both been starring in diverse fashion mag editorials, and in my opinion do a good job with their stylings. I've seen T.O.P. piling on the rings in a fashion that would make Rachel Zoe proud.

How weird it is. The discrepancy of what we are outside to the inside.

I take 30 minutes at my quickest to get totally done and ready and out of the house.

In these 30 minutes there is a transformation taking place.

30 minutes between inside and outside.

Getting Better

I'm slowly but steadily working my way up from a very bland and headless creative slump about how to dress, how I want to look and be like, and what I really want. I even took up drawing again.

I just hate the fact that my closet to most parts is so much trash. It's ballast, and as that it's bothering me intensely. So for me, it all starts with the shopping, and this shopping thing and becoming more efficient and smarter at it has been an issue for me for a whole while now, and it's come a long way. I just wish I got better at it already!

However, I decidedly love the fact that getting better at shopping is the only serious issue I have. Only besides the obviously high odds that I'll fail JLPT level 2, despite putting so much effort into it.

And Daul Kim's supposedly suicide shocked and unsettled me to no end, and I am really not one to swoon over celebs or be easily rocked. I could simply not believe it. Through all the years I read her blog, when I read her deeply sad posts, I always had wished for her to become happy. Now I hope she can rest in peace. But I really, really wish she hadn't done it. It must mean she's seen no value to her life, nor to herself. But there was. I just wish she could have seen it.

I'm Too Young to Get Old

I'm too young to get old.

A lot in my closet, home and here, is just trash.

There, now it's out.

I wanna do more outfit posts again.

Not macht erfinderisch

I just thought of something to make this white sweater-shirt I dropped make-up on wearable again. See, you don't see the make-up spot anymore, it's somewhere hidden in the folds I draped and sewed on.

Thru Space and Time

I concluded, as basics, I wouldn't need much. I know, the 'timeless'-ness of items and essential basics is all according to and depending on each and everyone's own definition. I determined mine by the frequency I am lusting after them. As for the following, it's each time. Of course, some items will differ depending on the season, but to the greatest parts stay the same. That makes it a firm consistency in my closet. And most of the time, if I was that easily content, it'd be all I would center my wardrobe around.

1. ___ 2.

1. EASY - Skinny denim - I plead guilty of simplicity. And black ballet flats. Because I have plenty of shoes, but all I'd actually ever wear is black ballet flats. I just love blazers. A dressy statement accessory item is never wrong. And a plain white T is self-explanatory in itself.

2. CHIC - Wide leg pants and chic pumps. Even I sometimes have a thing for a bit office chic. A dressy top, preferrably some sort of blouse. A beige trench-coat - of which the perfect I haven't yet come across.

3. ___ 4.
3. EVERY DAY - A simple mini skirt, maybe with a little twist. A reliable oversize sweater. A big shopper bag, that doesn't have to be chic, but down-to-earth, and easy going. And the only sneakers I wear is these sequinned plim soles.

4. CHILL - I am all pro sweat pants as every day street wear. I'm a sucker for both fur hats, and fierce military parkas. I already have the most perfect parka jacket I've ever come across, which I CAN'T wait to wear already.
