On Top

My style has become so terribly pointless. I do not even have any excuse - like 「it's too hot to think of any better」, or 「life's too much stress right now」, or 「I'm out of inspiration」. None.

I have been thinking about buying cheap vs. buying labels and designers a lot lately. I have been in a slump ever since, because my >>standards<< have somewhat risen exponentially to the amount of money I actually have. Le sigh.

I am sick of buying disposable and easily replacable basics. Think of it, we are buying the same things, the same forms and fabrics over and over again, like that cotton T-shirt in blue, iridescent yellow or tie-dye turquoise with sequins. Or that slip-on polyester dress in black, or acid-wash green with drawstrings, or a boat-neck instead of a V-neck. We get insulted when our friends observe that we do have that same dress already, to which we would say "no, look, the cut/color/hem/detail/[insert your own feature] is comple-te-ly different"! We layer cotton over polyester-blend over cotton/rayon.

Okay, maybe it's less "we", more particularly "I". Because from here on I don't want to waste money, time, space, nor effort for useless stuff anymore. My style should begin with the shopping. I want to shop for things that make me stylish, not things that I have to twist and turn to make stylish by amassing things to complement it, which in turn need other things to complement them satisfactorily, and so on (this applies mostly to clothes, less accessories). You could also say, I got lazy and want things to match that lifestyle. Harr.

End of story.

P.S.: Did someone get my point??? If so, please say "here"!

P.P.S.: That's not my laundry hanging around there in the pics! What would the girl say if she knew...

Anyway, here!

I find myself nodding to this post and your previous one on democratized dreams. All I can say is, stop reading me mind! :D

I love your style, the manipulation that only you can create. But I do understand style, fashion, taste things change. So I will say "Here"!

Here, here!! Basics are cool, but when I go shopping I'm looking for pieces that are unique, different, and stand alone without always needing a jacket to lay over, or a another tank top to wear with it. Give me a sparkling blouse, African print dress, or a ruffle top any day! For bottoms, I don't mind going basic with pants (black, white, khaki, navy), but with skirts I love pieces that pop, either in their color or in their design.

always choose the things that emotion you, not the things that you need, don't bother other people opinions, try to be very selective in spending your money.

Oh, Honey, I hear you! Style does start at the shopping. Well said.

LOL i know that feeling..the deadlock of fashion...the style slump :P you know what i did...i just stopped shopping :P and plus not having a job and the fact thqat the recession is nibbling away ...I just stick to what i ahve...and save up as much as i can and then just buy quality pieces...I feel the pain :P

here!!! so, here. I've started shopping for things that I know can match with lots of things in my wardrobe, and that I would wear on almost any weekend rather then once a month.

of course i love hi-quality stuff which is why i drop loads of cash on clothes...but buying cheap doesnt necessarily mean buying what everyone has...thriftstores and markets always have gems if you have a good eye

i do agree though that owning say, balenciaga as opposed to a forever21 something or other gives you less of the need to "style"it...cuz if you have a cool item you've already got the "cred" and you don't need to try so hard. i always felt this sort of thinking was really lazy and uncreative on my part tho. i want to make an effort regardless of the clothes being cheap or expensive...and of course still look casual and comfortable

we'll talk about this more tomorrow over dinner haha

not really "here" because i'm a sucker for basic-stuff stuff. i like the idea of having a basic-wardrobe and buy a few statement pieces each season to give it a stylish twist...
however i agree with you that it'll get better when you stop buying much and look for higherpriced quality.

I'm just like you. I buy basics because they are safe, but then eventually it becomes repetitve and boring. I want to splurge, but I don't because I am a poor unemployed student (I think it's also because I'm afraid of "change"). My closet deeply disappoints me. Who knows how long I'll be in this rut. @.@

Vivian, that's just not like me. I buy basic cause I layer a lot, I never have the "safe" aspect in mind. It may help if you just start with ONE item thats a bit more out there and maybe it makes you more open to more of it.

I'm with you.
I've been shopping rarely and have been somehow able to stick to my *if it doesn't make my stomach flip don't buy it*

oh and great color combination btw. ♥
